About Us

We are a Charitable Incorporated Organisation. We incorporated in July 2017 and have successfully operated the library since then.

The objects of the CIO are:

  • To advance education by the provision of a library facility and service and other educational community resources and activities for the inhabitants of Rowlands Gill and surrounding areas.
  • To further benefit the said inhabitants without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or of political religious or any other opinions by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation leisure time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the residents.
  • To promote other such charitable purposes as may, from time to time be determined.

The trustee board decides on key issues and they are: Tim Deveaux (Chairman), Carol Deveaux(Treasurer), Sue Whisler, Val Rankin, Denize Taylor and Lorna Harvey. Mary Maughan (Secretary) – non trustee. The trustee board makes the key decisions in operating the library in consultation with the volunteers. The chairman makes day to day management decisions and more important decisions are made in consultation with other trustees. There are also lead volunteers in their sessions and carry out additional operational tasks.

All our trustee meetings minutes, AGM minutes and financial reports are available to all volunteers.

We have around 35 volunteers who operate the library on a session basis, each volunteer working a session based on operating hours. Volunteers staff the library and are expected to carry out the tasks of operating the library and keeping up to date by reading messages from the trustees in the diary, email and one to one with trustees.
